I took a Gigabyte GA-586SG out of my storage for a testbench-build - never tested it before, but it works. Well, it works somewhat.
It hangs/freezes at „Verifying DMI Pool Data“ so it won‘t boot from a disk. Never had this happen before with an other system so I have no idea what could be the problem and searching for a solution didn‘t help.
The system specs:
Pentium 200MMX, 2x32MB SDRAM, CF-IDE, Trident AGP card or Tseng PCI (same behavior).

I wanted to update the BIOS to use an AMD K6-2 400 CPU but yeah, I really need a working drive for that first!
And I also wanted ro ask about the pinout of the onboard PS2 connector, but that‘s of later concern.

If it is 4pin for PS/2 bracket, then obviously has Gigabyte on 586 line pin 1 for Vcc, 2 for GND, 3 DAT and 4 CLOCK. Try measure with multimeter.

Clean the memory sticks contacts with an eraser. Try one memory stick at a time.
Try without the CF-IDE connected to see if it's hanging on that. Reseat the cpu numerous times.

Thanks for the replies!
I reseated and cleaned the memory, cleaned the sockets with deoxid. CPU socket as well. Removed the CF adapter but no changes.
So I also cleaned the BIOS socket and since I had to remove that chip anyway I‘m going to flash it using an XGecu programmer.
Just to make sure I don‘t mess up:
- downloaded the latest BIOS file and renamed it to 5SG.BIN
- set the programmer to the correct IC (SST29EE010)
- click the PROG. button
Does that sound ok? I used that thing once and then that mainboard was bricked 😅

Flashed the BIOS but that did not help. Tried another CPU, a 233MMX and now the system boots from the CF card but Win98 hangs at the splash screen. It will also boot from the Win98 CD but then hangs while initializing setup.
Booting from the FDD drive still freezes the system at Verifying DMI Pool Data.
I guess this board is dead, I’ll just scrap it.

Dump the older one before you flash it incase things go wrong or you wanna roll back.
