Greetings users,

I am building '98 retro rig simply for nostalgic offline games and need a need guidance on a power supply that will be sufficient and reliable. I am not worried about the PSU being era authentic to early 2000's if there is a modern version that will be compatible.

Build:
Motherboard: ASUS P4T-CM mATX s423 i850 rdram
PCU: Intel Pentium 4 SL4SH 1.5GHZ Socket 423 Williamette
Graphics: XFX Geforce FX 5500 (is AGP 8x)
Ram: x4 Samsung 128mb RIMM
Sound: Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum

Any suggestions on PSU brands, individual products etc would be highly appreciated.

Seasonic, Startech, and EVGA are all recommended. I believe Flower Power - or whatever that brand is called - is good.

Honestly, though, I'd suggest trying to get a 500/550W power supply. Any further is super overkill for an old system.

I have been using Corsair and beQuiet PSUs (mostly because I had some corsair left from old gaming machines, and the bQuiet 450W ones were bought on a good deal.

One thing to watch out for though is to check what connectors come with it. Increasingly MOLEX is missing and SATA only has 1 or 2. Depending on your build, that may be an issue.

Also increasingly common is that the PSU comes with 24 Pin ATX power, rather than 20+4 pin. Which means you can't use it old older motherboards (suchas yours) unless you use an adapter.
