Hello everyone,
I have a 4670 AGP 1GB video card that has a blue LED on the PCB.
Under normal operation, the LED remains off; however, during heavy gaming it flickers. The LED does not stay continuously lit and instead flickers briefly under load, similar in behavior to an HDD activity indicator.
I would like to understand what this blue LED actually indicates.
Is this blue LED a GPU activity indicator? Is this normal behavior for this type of GPU card?
Thanks in advance!
Welcome to Vogons 😀
Far as the blue LED goes, I see some online user reviews which claim it's connected to whether the additional power cable is plugged in or not.
AI returns the following...
"The HIS HD 4670 IceQ AGP graphics card requires supplementary power via a 4-pin Molex connector. It also features an LED indicator near the power connector to confirm the power connection status.
Power Connector Details
Connector Type: The card uses a single standard 4-pin Molex peripheral power connector, not a modern 6 or 8-pin PCIe power connector.
Power Supply Requirement: AMD recommends a minimum 400 Watt power supply that can provide sufficient current on the +12 Volt rail and has an available 4-pin Molex connector.
LED Indicator Function
The card includes an LED (Light Emitting Diode) near the power socket, typically on the edge facing the front of the computer case when installed. This LED's primary function is to indicate whether the auxiliary power cable is connected correctly:
LED On (lit): This typically means the card is receiving the necessary auxiliary power from your PSU (Power Supply Unit) via the Molex connector.
LED Off (unlit) or Red (depending on specific model design): This would likely indicate that the power cable is either not plugged in, incorrectly seated, or there is an issue with the power delivery from the PSU.
Ensuring this connector is properly plugged into a live Molex plug from your power supply is crucial for the card to operate correctly and stably."
