greetings

i've downloaded a taiwanese game called "rockman strategy" on my vmware xp machine (with merely directx 9 & east asian language installed)

it installed normal and after mounting the audio cd (cd2) in d: with daemon tools the music played normal (and pretty much everything else except proper chinese text rendering but that's irrevelent)

but, for whatever reason the base sound effects that were installed just didn't play ingame (most noticable on the opening video or dialogue sound)

something which puzzled me because both sound & music and text rendering played perfectly on my other win 98 vm set up with softgpu (but that also comes with the problem of not being able to move the mouse cursor ingame,thus rendering it hard to actually play it)

i've read somewhere that this could have been caused by the fact the audio files were 16-bit? but couldn't dictate precisely why

if someone has wisdom on this subject i'd appreciate the support
