I've been trying out CWSDPMI to get curl working under MS-DOS 7.1, and whenever I use cwsdpmi with emm386 it causes curl to hang indefinitely. I've tried adding options NOHI, NOEMS and NOVCPI to no avail. It works fine only loading himem, but I need emm386 as well.
Not helpful, maybe, but WGET works for me on a thin client.
It uses a packet driver and CWSDPMI. I'm using the Helix DPMI host on that things, too. Not sure if it's of any relevance.

I had problems with EMM386 on a Win98SE tower in Windows mode before. UMBPCI worked for me. You can find it on https://dosprograms.info.tt/indexall.htm under the Utilities section. Try it out. 😀
