During the first restart/reboot after Microsoft Windows 98SE install copies the initial files to the main install drive, kept getting the following ominous white on blue screen error message:

VFAT Device Initialization Failed
A device or resource required by VFAT is not present or unavailable.
VFAT cannot continue loading.
System halted.

No other forum posts properly answered, first time performing an install using the setup.exe /pj switch requesting an ACPI install; and when checking BIOS settings, found PlugNPlay BIOS option not active, enabled/activated PlugNPlay BIOS option, and the Windows 98 install successfully continued, with the very next screen stating searching/configuring PlugNPlay devices...

Posting so others hopefully find the correct resolution, rather than being misled down a rabbit hole of other irrelevant possibly solutions!
