I'm at my wits end but I narrowed this down to the Catalyst 6.2 drivers for my ATI Radeon x850 in Windows 98SE (using the default standard display drivers I don't have this issue). Whenever I run a dos game from within windows the game runs fine, but when exiting it freezes on a black screen showing only the mouse cursor. ALT+ENTER or CTRL+ALT+DEL do nothing so I have to force a power shut down. Also from within Windows, when doing a shutdown to MS-DOS, it doesn't even make it and hangs (again black screen w/ mouse cursor). I can get to DOS when using a custom PIF (Philscomputerlab's MS-DOS Mode Super Easy for example), but there are some MS-DOS games that I'd like to launch from Windows for various reasons (my Yamaha XG YMF724 Wavetable for example).

It may be info overload but I've attached a HWINFO32 output, just to show my hardware setup if anything. I do have 4gb of ram (to use for my XP partition) so I've had to use Rloew's Patchmem. Just in case, I ruled that out as well but just editing the system.ini to [386enh] MaxPhysPage=20000 to restrict to 512MB instead of the patch for my latest install. No difference.

I'm hoping it's a setting I can set in the DOS properties or some other config I could be missing.
