Hello,

I recently purchased an old S3 Trio PCI Video Card from Yahoo Japan using Buyee.

However, after the item arrived to their warehouse, they sent me an email said it's a prohibited item (semiconductor products) and gave me two choices, dispose it or ship to a Japan adddress.

I google searched and it seems I maybe able to resolve it by using parcel forwarding service.

Anyone knows a good company I can use?

Thanks.

Buyee has been useless for me. I have used both One Map and Zenmarket for proxy buying including vintage hardware, chips and a bunch of other retro gear from what used to be Yahoo Auctions but is now JDirectItems, as well as Mercari.

I think Zenmarket also does freight forwarding but I've not tried that myself. I just know they work quite well for proxy bids.

@Beerfloat Have you ordered vintage video card from Zenmarket before? Just wondering if I will encounter issue.

I know possibly there is export ban for latest GPU, I don't understand why Buyee cannot ship an old video card made in year 2000.

Not a GPU but I have received an old 486 drop in card for a 386 through Zenmarket. About as semiconductor as it gets, I reckon.

That doesn't even make any sense. We get a ton of semiconductor based stuff from Japan commercially.

Are you in the USA or somewhere else.

Yes, I am in USA.
When I searched for a solution, found Buyee's response to the semiconductor restriction on reddit

Yeah that's Buyee. Got a kid order manga and toys and stuff thru them but they just outright refused some of the bids I tried myself. Restrictions this or that. I just use One Map mostly and then Zenmarket a few times.

I hope you're able to get Buyee to ship it to another forwarding service.

If it really comes down to them destroying it, please let me know and I'll give you an address in Japan where it can be shipped to someone who will look after it. I hate to see old tech destroyed needlessly.

I use FromJapan/OneMap as a backup when Buyee is being unreasonably restrictive like when they refuse to ship an old graphics card

I emailed the customer support for One Map and Zenmarket, FromJapan/OneMap replied they don't have freight forwarding service.
Still waiting for reply from Zenmarket.

I took a quick look for both One Map and Zenmarket. For Zenmarket, if I want to bid on Japan Auction, I will need to deposit money to their wallet first?
And I don't need to do that for One Map?

Freight forwarding is a specific service where you get an address in another region that can recieve mail, so they will say they don't offer that. They service they offer is called proxy purchasing or proxy shopping.

Edit: Sorry I just read you were trying to get Buyee to ship it to somewhere else. You would have to use another company that offers that serivce, there are a few results on google but I haven't used any of them.

Yep that is my least favorite part of Zenmarket. I still have 10k Yen in there just because you gotta preplan your max bids and might get it for below haha. But that shouldn't be the case for freight forwarding.

That is probably the only way now that Buyee holds the item.

I used to love easyauctionjapan but they went out of service sometime last year. Very old school website and they required to first hand over money before they bought something but they offered great service most of the time and they just used some made up item values. All of which landed me in troubles with Fedex/customs because they wanted my buyment receipts from credit card or paypal but since you you could send a big sum to EAJ which they used to pay off several items I didn't have those receipts 😀

Just curious before they went out of business, did you get a chance to ship all the packages in their warehouse?
Or they suddenly shutdown their web site?

Just received a reply from Zenmarket said they don't handle freight forwarding.

I found one freight forwarding company, blackship Japan, I will contact them.

Aw that's too bad. Hope Blackship works out then.

They were quite professional/considerate with giving several deadlines (last chance to buy or participate in auctions, last date to ship something and paying back the money they still had). They were then online for another two months, giving enough time to make screenshots of all transactions.
