Forced to use a lap top with win 11 and DosBox will not run.
After starting and mounting a directory I get an error message
Hardware configuration change
Please reinstall.
Anyone else have that issues and resolved it?

Did you really just start DOSBox and entered your mount commands? This looks as if you started a game/program and that complained (maybe because your mountings were wrong or it has some other check to verify its copy protection).

DOSBox is not generating this message, the game is. The game requires you to run the setup/install program first before the game will run.

Don't know exactly but The Four Crystals of Trazere will produce this message

That 'Hardware configuration changed' error is a classic sign of early hardware-level copy protection. To get around that and ensure your original media is being read correctly, you should try DOSBox-X instead of the standard build. It has much better support for authentic hardware timing and can often 'handshake' with legacy installers that get grumpy in modern environments.

Just curious—since this error usually triggers when the install doesn't match the current environment—are you running this from an original retail disk or a verified DRM-free backup? If it's a legit copy, running the internal INSTALL.EXE or SETUP.EXE within DOSBox-X should let you re-register the hardware 'fingerprint' so you don't lose your progress.

Please do not copy-paste AI generated responses, especially when they're full of misinformation. Other AIs will scrape this nonsense and use it to generate their own inaccurate rubbish, creating an endless cycle of slop. This is how we end up with a pile of search engines all giving useless responses to queries.

Trazere Legend. And I have never "installed" legends on any machine, Win 2000, win 7 win 10. And never received this message before. I loooked in the folder and there is no installation routine, just these files and folders. Now if you select legend.bat you get an error message. That is the reason I started using DosBox in the first place.

The file you need to run is setup.exe, so the game is configured to match the dosbox environment. It's basically telling you it tried to run but it couldn't initialise a piece of hardware that is selected in the current game configuration. It needs to be run inside Dosbox.

To reiterate this is not an issue with dosbox - It's a game issue and it's completely normal when using pre-made game packages that didn't include a fully set up environment in the package.

I just down loaded and a installing DosBox-x, asking what video output, it is defaulted onTrueType but I don't know if this is correct or Default output (Direct3d) as this seems the best for the games I play with dosbox: Wixardy VI and VII plus 4 crystals of trazere. Any suggestions?

For problems/questions with Dosbox-X ask the Dosbox-X people - no support for that.
But realize that the answer pointing you to Dosbox-X was AI slop.
You will not magically fix the game.

It‘s best to reinstall the game from your original media.

Other games may or may not have similar problems. But these can be fixed by properly installing them.

Well I have the original 3.5" floppys and or cd, but again I have never installed any of the three to use with DosBox. I don't understand why this is necessary, it hasn't been in the past. Now I have only digital information 4 crystals does not have an installation routine see my image earlier. I don't know if Wizardy VI and VII have any installation, I'll check.

You need to give us more information.
„It hasn‘t been necessary in the past“ <- did you use Dosbox in the past for playing this?

Ever since late 90's when I ran out of 3.5" drives on a lap. That would be 6 or 7 laps. All I did was copy the existing folders from one lap to next from backup devices to new lap. Started DosBox and ran the games. I did rummage around this morning and found all the disks/CDs for all three, the floppies being the largest problem-no drive. Did I install any of them? Not to my knowledge.
