So this game basically is like a horror themed mini-golf game with digitized backgrounds and some FMV elements, kinda interesting imo. The game runs fine with the CD inserted as you'd expect, but trying to get the game to play off the HDD causes some bizarre problems. When you install the game, inside the installation folder is a Media folder, and the rest of the files are on the CD also in a Media folder, so I just copied the rest of the files into this folder and there is an HG.INI file where one line is CDROMDir D:\ so I just changed that to the path of the game on the HDD and at first the game works fine, I can get to the opening menu and put in my name and select the course, but once I do that I get errors about it not finding files... and bizarrely I find that the game after running it DELETES the extra files I added to the Media folder from the CD dropping it from nearly 400mb to 22mb and I cannot get it to not to this. Idk if this is some kind of anti-piracy but I've never seen that happen before.

If I just copy the the CD's Media folder (or even just dump all the CD's contents entirely) to another folder on the drive and trying pointing the game to that, it doesn't run at all giving me an error saying it can't find the CD. This is an obscure game so who knows if anyone here will know anything about this, but any ideas?

i'd just use an image file for the cd.

But if you have ntfs as the filesystem, you can use a filesystem security ACL to disallow write/delete to that directory.

The game will then try, but fail, to delete the files after that.
