Hi everyone,

I recently found a Compaq Portable III at my grandmother’s place and I’m trying to learn more about it.

It appears to be in relatively good condition. The power cable has some damage to the outer insulation in a few spots, but the machine powers on without any obvious issues. I also found a floppy disk inside.

I’m not very familiar with this kind of older hardware, so I was hoping someone here could give me some information about it and possibly an idea of its value.

If needed, I can provide photos.

Thanks in advance!

Some basic info on Wikipedia about it, a 286 machine, orange screen; I used one long ago with the optional backpack for 2x full length ISA boards, I used mine with a network card and a custom board for my work.

You can see some for sale adverts on ebay for these, for maybe 2-300 Euro . Not something I'd go for nowadays though. Oddly enough the re was a separate backpack for sale on ebay, at about the same price as the base system. I think I had 1.5MB of ram in my base system, not sure if it was expandable.
(There may also be a small tilting base stand for it, if the screens tilt function is not considered enough)
