So no other reasons other than i spent a lot of time on Windows XP in my career. I thought i should re-create some PC from that day. Here's my requirements when i started...

  • Must have both 3.5 and 5.25 FDD
  • Must fit into AT case
  • Don't spend arm and leg for this

I did accomplished that goal with these "enhancements". Since this motherboard is AT/ATX PSU ready, i put ATX PSU on this case. This worked out great, magically. I had to use reset switch for power switch, turbo mode switch as a reset, as a result of this substation and works fine. Out of the box, WinXP did not setup. it got hanged in text mode setup. It was not working right with ACPI setup in this BIOS. Got a newer BIOS from retro-web and i was able to proceed with the setup. (Having EEPROM writer is super handy).

the final spec...

PCPartner ZXBS3-936
P3 800Mhz
384 MB RAM (125+256)
Matrox G400
SoundBlaster, CT4780
USB 2.0 PCI card
DLink DEF-530TX NIC
256GB SSD (over SSD -> IDE adapter. i just used old Samsung spare i happen to have)
Microsoft Serial mouse (yes serial mouse, not PS/2, not USB)
AT desktop case (LEDs replaced. Old ones were not bright).

Next step...

I also got a dot-matrix printer. I have tested it already with Win98 so it works. this will be attached to this PC 😀

PCpartner is now Sapphire, an AMD AIB partner for their graphics cards.
But I actually started my x86 journey with their S370 motherboard based on the VIA Apollo 133 chipset.
Can you test the memory speed, for example in AIDA64?
The 440BX (which is practically identical to the ZX) achieves around 1,000 MB/s at an FSB frequency of 133 MHz.
At 100 MHz, this should be around 750 MB/s.

PCPartner also does Zotac's cards which are mostly nVidia.
