I have an Intel Memory expansion board. It has no effect when I plug it into my 286. It has 18 1Mx1 drams in it (p21010). Not sure if these required a driver or not or if it was XMA or EMA. If anyone has info on it I would be grateful.

Unless you want us to use our glass knackers, umm crystal balls, we're gonna need more info about the machine it's going in, including chipset and current RAM.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

They need a HIMEM.SYS (XMS) driver to be seen in real-mode DOS, or LIM EMS (I believe is earlier). Windows 3.1, a protected-mode operating system should also be able to see the extra RAM.

Re: ISA XMS/EMS Memory Extension / Expansion cards: Now Running without Driver / Documentation :-)

This thread should be a sticky that shows up any time someone asks a question like this.

Re: ISA XMS/EMS Memory Extension / Expansion cards: Now Running without Driver / Documentation :-)

ISA Memory cards are an Easter egg hunt, to work they need to be configured around the exact amount and memory locations in your system to form contiguous memory.

There are utilities that can map all ram locations in the memory map regardless of being detected, once done you need to figure out how to jumper and reconfigure your card to slip into the correct memory address(s)
