Having problem with Phantom Menace (Japanese version), the subtitles are not displaying correctly, any solutions?

If the subtitles are showing strange characters, it likely needs to run on a Japanese version of windows. Just a guess though.

That’s it, need to be installed on a japanese language windows.
I have the physical edition of the Star Wars episode 1 racer in japanese and it is the same. It says that in the box so most likely is that.

I don't know what it was like in Windows 98, but later versions of Windows used "Language Packs", which had to be installed during or after an OS install that was going to be used by non-English speakers.
