The Diamond Viper PCI (Weitek 9000) has a OTI807X to handle 2D DOS tasks but this part of the card is pretty crippled, running with only an 8-bit 256K RAM. Checking the card's specs, it can also run with 512K 16-bit and 2MB 32-bit RAM configurations. This card comes with 2 256x4 RAMs and unpopulated footprint for 2 more unpopulated ram chips. I am wondering if anyone tried adding two more 256Kx4 RAM to it and upgrading it to 16-bit? I would think this would CONSIDERABLY improve its 2D DOS performance?

It looks like you only drop in the chips and it'll work, I definitely see no reason it wouldn't. I have done similar on an earlier Oak chip with success.

You can try to solder two sockets and install two more chips
Anyway I don't think you got real DOS performance boost
It GUI accelerator with very limited DOS support

Need help? Begin with photo and model of your hardware 😉

Thank you, I will try this and report back with how much the performance improvement will be..
