Every time I try to run a program with VDMS, (right click, menu pops up, run with VDMS) one of two things happens. A) I get a black dosbox, which is empty, or B) I get

VDMSound DOS loader, version 2.01 (Aug 04 2001)
Copyright....

VDMSound is covered...
published by the Free....

And then somtimes I wil get a message saying that VDDloader.dll is loading, but it will never get past this point. Been working on the problem for bout 4 hours now, and cant seem to get anywhere, any suggestions or fixes would be much appreciated.

I'm running the following:
Win XP, DX9
AMD Tbird 1.33 Ghz, 384 ram
Geforce 2 MX400
onboard legacy, sounblaster 16
soundblaster live PCI card

Have also tried uninstalling and reisntalling the launchpad, and hjave updated to version 1 of VDMS 2.04.

And though it probably wont do any good, 'cept for making this a longer file, heres the verborse (set to 0 in the debug option) VDMS.log file through several tries.

Probably need Vlad's help with this, but I noticed you have DirectX 9. Problems seem to skyrocket with DOS programs after DX9 (not for everybody...but still...)

Still having the same stupid problems, and I have all these abandware games just waiting to be played.

A couple questions:
Is there anyway that my BIOS settings for the onboard sound (which is MPU-401 and a soundblaster 16 I believe) could conflict with allowing VDMsound to run? I have them currently disabled.

Does VDMsound require a free IRQ to run properly, or does it emulate on through the software and then push it out to DX?

Could RunDLL32 be the problem, an how would I go about replacing it if it is?

As far as I have been able to trace, the program seems to hang up after calling ntvdm(vddloader.dll) (if i remember correctly anyways), could this have anything to do with it?

thanks for any help, and good job with th site

Not as far as I know, but I might have had one in the past that I uninstalled. Just to be sure, any idea what file names a mmon would use? I'll take a look into the registry as well.

If you find files like USERPORT.SYS or GIVEIO.SYS, those will kill SB emulation.
