this might interest users of Epiphan capture cards: I ported the alignment tool I wrote about 10 years ago to python.

A python program is nowadays much easier to handle than a java program.

It is not just simply a port, but a lot of the alignment algorithm were reviewed and it should be more robust in many aspects.
It is possible to automatically tune the PLL value now aswell.

The source bandwidth estimation calculation was adapted to follow closer indutry standards. It also shows for R, G, B separated now.
There is also a color depth detection now that should be able to tell if the current mode is 24 bit or 555 / 565 16-bit mode. I think this might be mostly useful for the 16-bit modes to find out if it is actually 555 or 565.

The required test images that have to be shown on the source are included for common resolutions.
