So I've been trying to search for what I should do/narrow down what I want to do but nothing I've found quite seems to fit my needs. So I'm sorry for posting another of these threads but I'd just like to see if I can get some direct input.
I currently have a Pentium MMX 200mhz PC essentially recreating what I had for my first computer, which has been great but I'd like a bit of an upgrade. Not a huge one, but my goal is basically to bring it up to being able to play, like, Diablo 2, Mechwarrior 2 Mercs, Red Alert 2 etc. at decent framerates and graphics modes, that kind of thing. Basically games up to around the year 2000 is all I care about. I also want to keep my ISA soundcard as I'm particularly attached to it (Avance Logic ALS100 non-plus), but an AGP upgrade to the S3 Trio ViRGE/DX 2mb might also be nice?
The question arises in how to upgrade. Would I be best suited getting a Super Socket 7 motherboard with an AGP slot that I can use to overclock this CPU up a bit? Should I try an AMD K6-2? Pentium 2? Keep the S3 card and add a 3D accelerator? I don't really have any personal experience in this area, after my original Pentium machine I basically used cheap hand-me-downs from friends and stuff until like 2010, so I have no idea what is considered good hardware around this period. So could I get some suggestions here?
