I have ported my bAIos project to the M919 in an effort to solve the many problems with the AMI BIOS. The project has been extremely difficult, but also a great success.

The reason I'm making this post is I need community help. I only have board revision 1.5, and some issues have been reported with revision 3.4 affecting floppy drives. I'm looking for someone with revision 3.4 to assist with diagnosing the floppy issue and validating other board features. There is no documentation for this chipset aside from what has been reverse engineered, and the board electrical/behavioral differences cannot be determined from documentation. If you are able to provide any fixes, please submit a PR on Github. If you have the hardware and just want to help validate, please file any issues on Github as well.

Here's what bAIos brings to the table for the M919 so far

  • LBA28 for hard disks up to 128GB
  • APM 1.2 and SL CPU support
  • Better performance (63.89 fps in Doom, anyone?)
  • More tuning options
  • Self recovery from unstable settings
  • L2 cache works reliably (but this board is picky!). Faults are displayed with diagnostic information.
  • Sound crackle with VLB graphics in Doom is fixed at ISA speeds of 11MHz and greater
  • VLB color palette inversion cannot be fixed in firmware. It is a hardware fault.

What's still missing

  • Plug and Play (coming soon)
  • ACPI
  • Cyrix and POD CPU validation
