Has anyone found a good solution for direct access to the LPT port hardware from DosBox? (not for printing - for controlling other devices)

I used to have (and might still if I looked) some older DOS games which use "special" LPT connected controllers/hardware ...

I also have quite a bit of proprietary (ie: HomeBuilt) hardware that is controlled by DOS software via the LPT port as digital input/output signales eg:

-> I created a setup for a disabled child with very limited movement, using custom input devices, effectively large buttons and lights to allow him to perform a number of functions (and some simple games that I and his father created for him)

-> My front yard Halloween display - Pumpkins "talk"(via SoundBlaster outputs) but as they talk LEDs in eyes light, also Bats fly across the yard, a spider goes up/down a fake web, a ghost lights and jiggles, a coffin opens/closes etc. ... all controlled by LPT I/O pins.

-> Assorted test equipment I sometimes still use in my lab.

I never got "porttalk" to work reliable, been a long time, but IIRC it couldn't access the port if it was disabled, and once enabled Winblows likes to poke/respond to bits unexpectedly (perhaps looking to see if a printer has been connected) - also reading online, it seems to not support 64-bit Winblows well...

This is one of the primary reasons I still have several actual DOS systems ... but it becomes a problem when I want to build something for someone else... not too many people these days take kindly to: "Oh yeah, you have to have/maintain a DOS system"

I'd really like to support Win7/64, Win10 and Win11 (which I don't actually have yet - so I haven't be able to test - but I don't expect any significant difference from 10)

I'm still using DosBox Megabuild6 which I know is considered obsolete, but I've fixed some critical bugs that affected me, and ain't keen on the "massiveness" of newer editions which so far don't really by me anything (except a screen that looks even less like an actual DOS system 🙁 ) - Do any of the newer DosBoxes address direct LPT hardware I/O in a better way?

What would be ideal is if DosBox had a method to map "virtual" I/O ports to real ones directly without the host being aware (other than possibly having to enable access permission to an I/O range) - Does anything like this exist?

Anyone got other ideas/suggestions on how to make this workable?
