DosBox doesn't show directories created with ALT+numpad nor can it create such directories.

Not sure if this has any practical purpose but I suppose if there was a directory on the host system that uses these characters then DosBox will not show it.

I tried it out today because I remembered when I used to do the ol' ALT+255 trick to hide files. 😎

yeps.
some characters aren;t allowed in our dos.
This actually a form of garbage detection. (incase we are executing garbage dosbox won't go creating weird files on your harddisk)
Characters are added to allow list when we encountered a game depending on them

Where can I find this list? I'd like to use alt-213 and alt-214 in ultima 6 (they're cheats for viewing the surrounding countryside and teleporting)--how do I tell the keymapper to emit 213 or 214?

It's a good thing you appearently searched the forum for an answer to a problem, but please note the dates: this thread is almost three years old! Also, it has nothing to do with your problem, as it is about filenames, not in-game keyboard usage.
