DOSBox works for DOS programs. That's why it's called DOSBox 😉

Welcome by the way 😀

Compatibility mode is not a magical fix. It only applies certain general fixes to get games to work.

It's mostly used to bypass "This game requires Windows xx". Anything else you try to fix with it is generally hit or miss.

To apply more specific fixes or to make your own fix you need to download the Application Compatibility Toolkit. Otherwise it's like trying to screw in a screw with a hammer as opposed to using a screwdriver.

You can run windows 3.x on dosbox to some extent, but nothing later. The vast majority of true Win9x (i.e. 32 bit) apps work fine on XP anyway.

Windows 3.x is not actually an operating system. It's a DOS application that runs "child applications" inside.
