Hello,

I'm running Win2000. I installed VDMSound 2.0.4 with the LaunchPad 1.0.0.7.

I can play some game like pray for death by clicking run with VDMSound. However, some games didn't work (no vesa driver found) , so I tried to edit the properties and got this error:

=============================================
Debug Error!

Programs: C:\WINNT\Explorer.exe

Damage: After normal block (#6887) at 0x02425610

(Press Retry to debug the application)
=============================================

When I press Retry or Ignore, the application closed and Explorer.exe restarted itself. Why?

Please help!!!

Does that mean it worked properly? Or that is the game giving you a problem?

Changing the properties of an executable or batch file will not fix a lack of VESA video support.

You need to start with telling us what you were actually trying to run. Both the name of the game, and the executable or batch file that you are supposed to run that starts the game.

yeah..it worked properly. both video & sound are ok.

really? but there is a option "enable basic vesa support" in the properties menu, it can not fix the problem???

well, i can only play a DOS4GW game now, that is pray4death. all of the others suck....blank screen or windows freeze or vesa driver not found. such as:

speed haste
settler 2 gold
faery tale adventure 2
hammer of the gods
death rally

and i can't edit the properties because of debug error.... : (
please help!

In that case, VDMSound was probably working properly. You didn't specify what program it was that you edited the properties. Hopefully it wasn't your actual VDMSound, as that may ruin the program.

No, it can't. This is what is known as "poorly labeled feature". It does not affect what VESA your video card will support. What it does is make the command line window change to full-screen mode before starting the program you have chosen.

Some games won't work properly without it. Other programs won't work with it. It all depends on how the DOS program uses VESA.

speed haste

Hrmm. Hadn't heard of this one before. Found a demo, initial testing doesn't look good.

settler 2 gold
hammer of the gods

These both are known problems, with no known solutions at present. Enter "hammer" or "settlers" into the "quick search" box at the top of the page and it should pull up earlier posts on this.

faery tale adventure 2

This one is odd. Why aren't you using the Windows 95 executable?

death rally

This one is a major pain, but you can probably get it working by following the suggestions in the Problem Child thread under the Death Rally post.

BTW, all these titles use VESA/SVGA video modes which cause plenty of problems on their own (nothing to do with VDMSound). This is directly related to what hardware and OS you are using.

You need to give us a description of your basic hardware and your OS in accordance with the Posting Guidelines posted at the top of every forum.
