I've re-installed the original Deus Ex after not playing irt for a year or so; however, despite the fact that it ran well last time on the same system, it simply doesn't work this time - if I run it in Direct3D mode, it freezes right after the CD-check, gives me a blank full-screen and I cannot get out of it in any way but a reboot; in OpenGL or Software modes, it still freezes but I can get out of it using Alt+Ctrl+Del.

My System Specs:
- Pentium-4, 2.8GHz
- 256MB DDR RAM
- NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, 128MB graphical RAM
- WinXP with Service Pack 2
- Deus Ex with the full 1.112 Multiplayer/Single Player Patch

What I've tried so far is:
- Uninstall Deus Ex and make sure the directory is deleted, then reboot and re-install
- Play without the Patch or with it
- Deus Ex safe mode without sound
- Direct3D mode, OpenGL mode, Software mode

Niether worked...

I've found a solution! Turns out two little buggers, named a3d.dll and asdapi.dll were responsible. The way to get rid of them could be found here (different game, same issue).

Now it works like charm!
