Is the aim of this project to emulate DOS exactly the way it was, for example to make it work exactly the same way as it works on a 386 computer with the most recent DOS version from that time?

I mean, including all weird quircks and memory details that DOS had, and were (ab)used by some games, such as Biomenace?

Or are such oddities not supported by DOSBox on purpose, so that it doesn't have those oddities, but isn't actually an exact emulation and thus causes trouble for games that (ab)used them?

uhm it's a bit of a mix
that biomenace doesn't work is caused by a bug in biomenace. We added support for that bug, but it was broken just before the release. (different bug in biomenace).
We try to emulate what is necissairy to run games. (without giving up too much of the speed).

So some features will not be emulated. (like segment checking)

I think DOSBox at the moment emulates most features. considering that around 90 % of the games run.
