Hi!
I'm here to say something ....
I'm sorry for what i'll say here!
Then mabye you shouldn't say it.
Well, with many of you saying that D-Fend is a dead project
I don't think many of us are saying that. Mabye one or two people on these forums....I guess if you consider that many
i'm sorry to say that i don't think that way.
Usually when a website sits around updated without any news, people consider a project as dead for some odd reason. This happened as well with DosBox since most people never went and checked out Sourceforge or bothered to download a CVS build of DosBox then they would consider DosBox to be a dead project as well.
"its"?? The developer of Dfend doesn't have a gender?
you'll notice that after some months after the release of a new DosBox version (and this new version took VERY LONG to be concluded, without any information or updates!) the programmer of D-Fend updated the site informing about counter on his site working again
ugghh, What a weird way to phrase a sentence. I just tried to decipher the above, so on a hunch I checked out the Dfend website and saw this:
21-11-05
ANNOUNCEMENT
I managed to get the site counter working again it was down for several months. Also, when a new version of DOSBox surfaces I WILL release a new version of D-Fend.
so because of that i think there will be a new bersion of D-Fend out someday in the future, that's for sure ...
huh. The Dfend dev posts on his site that a new version will be released and because of that you think there will be a new version someday in the future.....makes sense... (What was the point of you posting that??)
The real problem is that the fronteds out there (D-Fend is a exception!) is not made exclusively to work for DosBox, but a dos emulator, and what i need is a DosBox emulator with ALL the options for me to turn on and off!
What? All DosBox frontends are only for DOSBox. It's not like you can use them with Qemu/Bochs/DosEmu. Yes, a FrontEnd is used to turn option on/off.
I really don't like DOS commands.
Good for you.
DosBox developers took too long to conclude this new version, like it was too dificult to finalize
DosBox devs and beta testers have been working on DosBox very diligently since DosBox 0.63. The source files have been available daily every since DosBox was posted on SourceForge way back in 2002. The reason 0.65 took so long are numerous but some of the reasons are:
1. DosBox 0.63 was good enough for most things.
2. DosBox devs wanted to implement alot of new features in 0.65 and they required alot of testing.
(and i suspect the next version will take more longer to be concluded, if a new will come out some day ...)
I certainly hope the next official release takes roughly the same amount of time. The devs really don't care what the users WANT. They care about what they NEED as far as getting their games to work but not what they WANT. Users WANT this or they WANT that. Users don't really know jack. The devs will release their next official version whenever the heck they feel like it. You don't like it? Then go use some other emulator.
and they think the people does not have other things to do, waiting just for some days to someone release a new version after several months without any information about.
So the developers of many frontends out there are thinking: "what are they thinking? They finalize another version after half a year, like i don't have other things to do. No infomation about, nothing. Sorry, I don't have the time right now. So, they will have to wait a little more time! If they have released the new version earlier ..."
The devs do not care about the frontends. AFAIK, they do not even communicate with the frontend people. They are totally different communities.
As far as the frontend developers waiting for a new version and not having enough information? WTF are you talking about? As I stated above the source to DosBox is available on sourceforge for download by anyone. All of the information is there. If they need any more details then they can always post on this forum and ask.
It's not the Dosbox developers fault that the frontend developers are too lazy to download DosBox source code and maintain their frontends to be compatible. BLAME THE FRONTEND DEVELOPERS.
And they are right! Expecially D-fend developer, because this program exist only for DosBox exclusively.
Who is right? You are applying your opinions to 3rd parties. Get the Dfend Developer and other frontend developers in here and we'll see what they say. Also, as I stated above all DosBox frontends are exclusively for DosBox.
So, i you are responsible to release a freeware version,
There is no "freeware" version of DosBox. Never was, isn't, nor will there ever be. THANK GOD (and DosBox devs)!
try not disapointing other people and do the job correct!
That's what they've been doing all along.
If is a desire release new version more than half a year
As I stated above, the DosBox devs will do whatever they godamn feel like doing.
it's better to inform that on the site
I do agree that there could be more information on the site, but that's also a danger as well. If you constantly tell users that the new version is coming out, and you don't release it then there is hell to pay. See DNF. It's better to keep your mouth shut about developing your product.
If no new version of good frontends are out there, its only DosBox development fault ....
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong.
Let the door hit ya on the ass on the way out.
