Joystick problems

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I have installed VDMsound 2.04 and the Update plus the Launchpad 1.0.0.7 because I want to use the flight simulator programs "Airline Simulator 2" (AS2) and "Precision Simulator 1" (PS1.3a) with Windows XP Home Edition.

My problem is that every time I start one of this programs my joystick, a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro (the old one, NOT the USB) has a very limited range for left and right (aileron and rudder). The up/down and the throttle have absolutely no problems. The solution to solve this problem is that I calibrate the joystick with the program-included routine every time after launching this programs. But I do not need to save the vlaues because they are already stored correctly. So it seems that I have to do this calibration to "wake up" the joystick. After this wakeup process all axis work correct.
But I think there must be a way to avaiod this procedure.
I have tested it with the files joy3.map (the corrected one) and joy13.map.
Without the VMDS joystick emulation AS2 does not recognize the stick at all and PS1 hangs up during loading.

My system:
Intel Pentium 4, 2.53 GHz
512 MB DDR
120 GB Harddisc
128 MB DDR nVidia GeForce 4 MX 440 AGP 8x ViVo Graphic card
Creative Live Player 1024 Sound card

Has anyone an idea?
Thank you very much in advance to your answers!

Additional information:
I have had time to test it a little bit more. It seems that the throttle and the rudder will not be activated when starting this programs. I have to manually activate them within this programs and then the joystick works.

Hello again!

Maybe this helps a little bit to have a better idea of the problem:

It seems to be that the joystick signal does not exist during start-up of this programs.

This programs have auto detection of the joystick and if the signal is missing it can't work correctly.

Have a nice weekend!

Hello,
For PS13 you may want to check on the Aerowinx forum, since I know of at least two people for whom joystick emulation worked "out of the box" with PS13, so it may be a configuration (joystick/Windows) issue...

Hello!

The Aerowinx and the AS2 froum have been the first places where to ask this question.

They tell that they know the problem but have no idea how to fix it and it seems to be a VDMS problem.

The statement "It seems to be that the joystick signal does not exist during start-up of this program." comes from Hardy Heinlin, the author of PS1 himself.

But installing the update2 (where a new joystick emulation dll version is included) and the new launchpad version helped a lot.

It fixes the AS2 problem completely. For PS1 I (and several other users) do not have to run the complete joystick setup routine each time after launching PS1, but only reload the already stored joystick values to "wake up" the joystick. So this is a great improvement!

Hmmmm, ok. The sourcecode for VDMSound is available in CVS on SourceForge, so if whoever says it's a VDMSound problem can point out what the problem is I would be more than glad to fix it (assuimng it *is* a VDMSound problem and not a PS1 or Windows interaction or timing issue).

Cheers,
V.
