Andrea, you're killing me...we need DETAILS. "but nothing" doesn't tell me anything.

For Duke3D you might try one of the early experimental ports (listed on thread link DosFreak gave you...).

As for "Shadow Warrior" start from the beginning....after installing it. Configure it to run with no sound, no music, and 320x200 resolution. Does it run properly with those settings?

No. There isn't.

Again, no, there isn't. And don't expect one. Only the Duke source has been released. The Shadow Warriors probably never will be.

That's illegal. Go find a copy on eBay or somewhere similar.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Everyone hide all the sharp objects. The admin has flipped-his-wig again. Admittedly, this can be difficult to ascertain at times. Especially considering how bewildering he is during "normal-wig" status.

Do you not get it? We can't just tell you that, we need to know what kind of sound card you have first, at the VERY LEAST.

Yes, it’s my fault.

You mean by using an actual install of DOS 6? or just a bootable DOS 6 floppy disk? If you mean an actual install of DOS 6, then the instructions for DOS audio should have come with your soundcard and it's software.

BTW, I merged the two threads you created back into one. Also, you never told me what happened when you configure it to run with no sound, no music, and 320x200 resolution. Does it run properly with those settings?

OS:

DOS 6.0 (not from boot disk!!)

hardware:

c-media 8738 sound card, i have found and installed the dos drivers and a attached patch to resolve some pci audio problems.

software test:

the game runs with no sound, no music, and 320x200 resolution
perfectly but i if i select a vesa video mode it tells me that there si an error and that the hardware can't support this mode.

to what regards the sound settings i'm not able to set the sound blaster settings (i suppose i have to set up this sound card, it's true??).

to give you more details i paste here what there is in my dos autoexec and config file.

PCI SOUND PATCH DESCRIPTION

We found that there are some EPIC DOS games can not detect PCI audio. This is due to these games using instruction loop as time counter not a real constant period. In high speed CPU PC, the loop time become shorter. That is reason that games can not detect PCI audio. If you meet this problem, please run patch program to fix.
All of fixed files will backup to *.old.

thanx to you all and sorry for my english !!

Different unregistered here.

The EPIC patch is probably not necessary.

What kind of video card do you have? maybe the crash is related to that.

Whoa, calm down.

Let's try to get sound working first, guys.

Then, when it works, we can help get high-resolutions working. AdvanceVBE might come in handy.

*ack* Andrea, you really are killing me. First off, 8738 DOS audio support is terrible. I know, I used to have to deal with it for months. Getting any DOS game running in a "true" DOS mode almost never worked properly. Also, as far as I know, the DOS drivers out there only run in the DOS mode of Win9x; not DOS 6. I could be wrong, but considering how bad it's DOS support in Win9x was...I doubt it.

This is why I recommend Win95B for people trying to run old titles that won't work in Win2000 or XP. It has the maximum amount of compatibility for older game titles (DOS and Windows games). Even if it fails in the "true" DOS mode, you at least might have a chance to get it working with audio when running in Windows mode.

...the game runs with no sound, no music, and 320x200 resolution...

Good. That confirms that you have a good, working install of the game. Something (as I have come to learn...) we cannot presume to be true.

...but i if i select a vesa video mode it tells me that there is an error and that the hardware can't support this mode.

NOT good, at all... By the way, you didn't tell us what kind of video card you are using.

I will tell you that support for VESA in DOS or Win9x is much better than in XP. So if it doesn't work properly in DOS6, that is a bad omen...

...to what regards the sound settings i'm not able to set the sound blaster settings (i suppose i have to set up this sound card, it's true??).

You should use the game SETUP program to match your soundcard settings.

In your case:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T4
means to use the following settings in Shadow Warrior:
Current Address [ 0x220 ]
Current Type ( Sound Blaster Pro )
Current Interrupt [ 5 ]
Current 8-bit DMA [ 1 ]
Current 16-bit DMA [ 5 ]

(if SoundBlaster "new" doesn't work, try "old", if that doesn't work, try "SoundBlaster or compatible")

PCI SOUND PATCH DESCRIPTION

We found that there are some EPIC DOS games can not detect PCI audio.

That doesn't apply to "Shadow Warrior". The patch for PCI audio problems is from Ken Silverman's website here: http://www.advsys.net/ken/swsndfx.exe and must be run within your Shadow Warrior game directory.

thanx to you all and sorry for my english !!

Just try to be patient. As you may have figured out by now, DOS games can take a lot of work to get them running sometimes...

u tell me that i have to use a win95b SO version but i haven't the installation CD.

win 98se would be a good SO??
it supports games like warcraft 2 , syndicate and shadow warrior???

and over the other thing:

why the sound setup of a lot of games running in dos 6.0 if i set the SBlast settings (as you tell me) tells me that the sound card can't be find on the selected port??

maybe that the 8738 drivers for dos6 doesn't work for nothing???

thanks andrea
