Having followed the most recent tips to mount cd/dvd drive as sub-dir for the location i installed Ultimate Domain in.

60 seconds guide to getting your game to run in DOSBox
e.g.

mount D D:\
mount E E:\ -t cdrom -ioctl

ran the UD install, installed to D:\
opened up game folder (D:\domain)
tried to ran ultimate.bat (or domain.exe for that matter)
but keep getting the message
"CD-ROM disk missing or CD-ROM drive not ready"

You did? Hmmm... I beg to differ.

In the guide it says:

1. Create a directory for your game, e.g. "C:\DOSBox stuff\MyGame".

4. In DOSBox, mount up DOSBox's drive C: and D:

Z:>mount C "C:\DOSBox stuff\MyGame"
Z:>mount D "D:" -t cdrom -ioctl

Since your game is Ultimate Domain that translates into first making D:\DOSBox stuff\Ultimate Domain and then

Z:>mount C "D:\DOSBox stuff\Ultimate Domain"
Z:>mount D "E:" -t cdrom -ioctl

As you can see in the attached screeny, still get the same errors after your tips.

Try to add the cd label (see the readme).

Did you install the game within dosbox?

I tried both ways, installing via Dosbox and via Windows.

I hope the current installation is from within dosbox.
If it isn't, reinstall under dosbox.
If/when you have installed it within dosbox add the label.

Really Ciryadin!!! When someone like wd, with a title of DOSBox Author, tells you to do something different, it is because it is important.

Secondly, you keep misspelling that option. It is ioctl as in Ivar, Otto, Carin, Toby, Leonard - i o c t l.

Maybe when he has learned to read?

Btw - the label is the volume-name of the CD as shown when you open My Computer.

I thought he mean the -usecd label option as mentioned in the readme.

Found the label which is = gen_cd

still get the same message when using the new c dosbox instal dir

mount c c:\dosbox~1\ultimate
mount e e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl -label gen_cd

edit: or mount d e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl -label gen_cd (for that matter)

Why do you now mount C as C:\dosbox~1\ultimate when you during the install mounted C as C:\dosbox~1 ?? Why do you insist on changing the configuration between installing and running?

Because during the install you 'have' to give a sub-directory.
If i try to leave it blank the install doesn't accept it.

1. prio to install (c:\dosbox~1)
2. creating sub-dir ultimate during install
3. after install (c:\dosbox~1\ultimate)

After the install it automatically places me into the \ultimate subdir (see the 3 install screens above

But WHY do you mount it differently in step 3 (after the install)? YOU are writing those MOUNT commands, not the installer! Tell me - WHY do you mount it different *after* the install?

If you don't start following instructions, I will not only give up on you, I will also lock this thread.

PRIOR TO INSTALL:
Made a directory on on c root => C:\Dosbox stuff (C:\Dosbox~1)

mount c: c:\dosbox~1
mount e: e:\ -t cdrom -ioctl -label gen_cd

switched to e:
install

seeing the install NEEDS a sub-directory (if you press enter it doesnt do anything)
I enter ULTIMATE (creating c:\dosbox~1\ultimate)

finishing the install i exit at c:\ultimate (the game subdir)
launching (ultimate.bat or domain.exe, .bat just launches .exe) i still get cd missing

If i "EXIT" dosbox and relaunch it, then tell me why would i again
mount to c:\dosbox~1?, instead of just mounting directly to c:\dosbox~1\ultimate

Because when you mount the game directory directly it thinks it's installed in "C:\" when you actually installed it in "C:\dosbox~1\ultimate". This can for some games mess things up.

I think you need to re-write that DosFreak 😀 Changing mount paths seems to even confuse you, so it is anyones guess how confused a game can become.
