1) You're using XP. OK, got that much. Gives us a more detailed description, video card, memory, etc... It doesn't have to be a 12 page report, but saying you've got XP is simply too little.
2) Here's why your post makes no sense

You say you RE-installed XP, but if you had run the original DOOM in XP before, you would know It's always been that way due to the way it processes audio. Unless you're trying to punish yourself for some horrible sin, USE A WINDOWS PORT.

I'd recommend JDOOM using the DOOMSDAY engine except, of course, I don't know if that would be ideal for your system because I don't know your specs, because you didn't give any, because you didn't follow the Posting Guidelines.
Another suggestion, avoid using the phrase "and the old dos games", as DOS games have a WIDE range of behaviors when run on XP. Don't lump them all together.
If there are any other issues, please give DETAILS, not "everything is really slow". Pick a title, give your system specs, and we'll start from there...
Sorry 😀
Well It's a MSI KT400 Ultra with C-Media onboard chip. Video is Geforce2 Ultra 64meg.
I know about the new port of doom but it's not just doom. Hexen and Heretic run bad too. Oddly though, before I reinstalled I had no problem with doom or the other 2 games. They ran fine. Is their a way to disable the XP sound emulation and just use the VDMsound? I am using Patch 2 with it. (Also tried without) Wouldn't it be nice if MS just made a full dos emulator that actually worked? 😀
If you need more info please ask!

Ok, appears to be a capable system, weak on audio, but still capable.

Don't make me throw a spoon at you. You can turn much of the graphic enhancement options off, and the 3D models are optional. There are a number of DOOM ports available, not just JDOOM/DOOMSDAY. Try ZDOOM, Doom Legacy, or PRBoom (apparently the most compatible/most "Pure" DOOM port).
There is no good reason to continue running the DOS executable on an NT OS. It wasn't designed for NT, and simply will not run properly unless you disable the audio/switch to speaker audio.
You can also try hacking it with Cli2Nop, but that will increase the likelihood of a crash. You can also scan bargain bins for the Win9x version of DOOM. You'll be glad to know that other than higher-resolution options, there are no graphic enhancements at all.

Yes, all DOOM engine games have the problem.
Oddly though, before I reinstalled I had no problem with doom...
Not if you're talking about XP, it uses a PopF instruction that runs fine in Win9x, but horribly in XP (and not at all in NT4 or Win2000).

Not that I know of. It doesn't really matter, unless you're using IRQ5 the program isn't using the built-in emulation.

You can dream...
MS doesn't "make" anything. They buy out other companies and/or technologies. Take the aquisition of the VPC Emulation from Connectix. There's your DOS emulator right there. Unfortunately it'll MS's focus for it will be for consolidation of NT4 Server OS'S for emulation under 2000/2003 Servers. Someday they may THINK about supporting DOS to some degree but by then DosBox will be Perfect. heh. Yeah, that long. 😁
