Has anyone been able to get any old demo scene demos to run with sound in winXP? Stuff like "Second Reality" or "Fatcs of life".
X.

They normally need very accurate timing, which windows XP doesn't provide. Second reality runs seriously slow here anyway 😀
SPEEDSET may easily solve that... provided that someone who is confortable with p-mode know how to adapt it for that (the main problem is that the ISR no longer gets called once progs enter p-mode, I guess because the set of vectors is switched for the task, so it gets complicated since the TSR ISR is real-mode).
Cheers,

Outside of a full-fledged "PC Emulator", I wouldn't expect many "classic" DOS demos to work properly on modern systems.
Way too many "hit the hardware"...really hard.
One good bit of news, for those that do run on an NT OS, there's a chance that GusEmuwill give you beautiful GUS audio to go with it.

I hope that someday some programmer takes up the challenge...
The realmode interrupt service doesn't get called anymore under pmode if the pmode program tries to at least save some speed 😀

Oh man. I never had a GUS, but they should merge that project into VDMSound and/or DOSbox.

You're welcome to "carry on the fight". At least the author is still making minor changes (last was on 7 March, 2003).
But I'd roll all the patches and updates into VDMSound 2.05 first, if I were you.
Quoth Stiletto in NOVEMBER OF 2002. *heh*
Yes, it’s my fault.
