it seems dosbox automatically mounts important system stuff to the Z Drive on loading, is there anyway to change the drive letter? I'm trying to run something that requires the Z letter to be free, thanks guys hope this is an easy problem I'm new 😀
there is a patch in the patches forum.
however you need to be to recompile dosbox to make it work.

ah no not Z I'm trying to play a game called return fire on my macbook, so I'm running os x dosbox and actually have no idea how to do a recompile 😀 is it easy or even possible on osx? thanks for the quick reply
Are you sure that game really needs drive Z? A quick forum search returned that it is a Windows game, could be that it is a Win3.x game and ths could be run on Dosbox. I could be mistaken through 😀
Edit: googled also and found the Wikipedia entry for it which says:
When trying to run Return Fire under Windows XP Home or Pro edition: first install the game and double-click on RUNME; a message screen will appear with 'not compatible with Windows NT'. Then check the new "Drive Z". Inside will be a copy of where you saved Return Fire to. You have to go under properties of RFIRE and _RUNME and change the compatibility to Windows 95 and tick all the boxes except the last one. Then run the game through RFIRE in the 'Drive Z'.
i used to play the game on my old pc and you could play it in either windows 95 or dos, now I only have a mac but thought dos box would be a simpler (and cheaper!) way to play it again other than a vmware virtual windows or what not I've got the game installed ok and try and run it and it says make sure drive letter Z: is free then kicks me back to the prompt
So if anyone out there has the ability to recompile dosbox with a different drive letter for os x, that would be awesome 😁
