Hi all,

(I'm currently typing this from my laptop.)
I installed MechWarrior 2 on my home computer using this IBM CD through some obscure process that I seriously can't remember. I should be able to follow the same process on this computer, but I can't recall what to do.

I know that I used DOSBOX after installation to get the game running, but that's not my problem -- I can't even install the game!

* Motherboard - Stock ASUS
* Processor type and speed - Intel Duo T5500
* Amount and type of RAM - 1GB (type unknown)
* Video board w/ RAM amount and type - Integrated Mobile Intel 945GM
* Sound board - integrated
* Operating system - Win XP Pro
* Game name (and version, if applicable) - MechWarrior 2 IBM CD version
* Version of emulator (for VDMSound, probably 2.0.4 or 2.1.0; for DOSBox, 0.58+) - once it gets working, DOSBox 0.72

Things tried - running without compatibility mode, running with compatibility mode, copying all files to hard drive and trying to run the install (failed because MW2 needs to be loaded from the CD). I would like to see if i can install the game in DOS but my DOS boot disk isn't working for some reason.

I would love any suggestions or comments. Thanks!

What??? You want to use DOSBox 0.72 once it gets working? But if it works, why use DOSBox 0.72?

??? Don't post when you're drunk... (;

DoctorKazefa: install the game from within DOSBox. You don't need DOS disks, as DOSBox emulates a DOS environment. Read the readme and the guides here to find out how to mount drives etc.

Basic steps:
- Install DOSBox
- Mount virtual drive c: (and CDROM)
- Install game
- Setup game (sound, etc.)
- Run game! (;

That's when using the DOS version of MW2, of course. According to MobyGames, there are also Windows variants of the game. These won't work with DOSBox, obviously.

Hey guys,

@Qbix - imgmount as in imgmount the dosbox command? cool, I'll try that.

@Addict - I tried installing in DOSBox but I receive an error:
Error Code 9005
The installer was unable to find a suitable temporary directory.

@MiniMax - nonono, what I mean is, I can only play the game through dosbox. However I install it, that's how I have to play it.

After reading this I tried: install.exe SwapDir=c:\misc
and received the same error! (although the code had shifted to 9009).
(Am I missing something here?)

Thanks!

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your help! I got the game working.

What I did in the end was:

mount c c:\games
imgmount o c:\mw2.bin -t iso (thanks qbit!)

(I had to make mw2.bin, the image file of my MW2 cd.)

I could then run the install program, and then mech2.
Amazing, this brings back so many memories =)

Again thanks!
