Don't worry, this isn't another topic asking how to run Daggerfall. I've did a bit of research, looked around these forums and to no luck didn't find any answers or similar problems - unless I've overlooked something.

It runs perfectly fine to an extent in and out of Dosbox. But I have an internal error I can't seem to fix, so I'll note down here my experiments to get it working.

Firstly, Daggerfall is installed and runs without Dosbox fine except the sound isn't brilliant, NPC/Enemies don't move well and player movement isn't particullary great either. However, books and quests work fine though the game tends to crash after sometime riding a horse - not a major problem here however the game runs a lot better within dosbox.

So upon running it in dosbox I get an opposite effect. Movement, NPCs and sound are brilliant - but now the books cause a glitch-crash (hall of mirrors effect) and quests won't start up. For example, I'll go to a fighters guild, join, get a guest but nothing happens. It works fine WITHOUT dosbox though.

I thought this could be a problem with getting data from the daggerfall arena2 folder or the arena2 folder from the cd (I have it all copied to the harddrive though) so I tweak the paths/mounts in both z.cfg and dosbox.conf and get no luck at all.

Though I did notice that if I have a path set for "path" in z.cfg as well as "pathcd" dosbox won't load daggerfall, just a constant blank screen. If I edit the path for "path" to .\ it works fine, but again the quest (and books) don't work the way they're supposed to.

It's wierd because all these work fine if I play it without dosbox, but I'd prefer to have faster, smoother and fixed gameplay (moving NPCs as well) I've tried several copies of Dosbox, from .72, .70 .65 .63 and neither solver my problems.

I would like to enjoy this game in it's full entirety, if only it weren't for these issues. The main quest of the game won't start otherwise which is a major problem. Any suggestions of help anyone could bring up?

Anything showing up in the command prompt of DOSBox and or showing up in the DOSBox Console window?

Did you try other DOSBox cores? With or without sound?

Do you know how to use the DOSBox debugger?

Erik.

1) Nothing special seems to be displayed in either during play or after escaping the game.

2) Yes, that is if I'm thinking the same thing. Cores from the dosbox.conf or am I mistaken?

3) Haven't really tried it, or at least never heard of it before. Could look into it.

2. You're correct, the core parameter in the DOSbox.conf file.

3. Well you can find them here : DOSBox debugger
These builds show a console window showing all sorts of info from CPU instructions to possible problems.
There will be a listing at the bottom of the window that can be copied. Copy it into this forum.
Also note, the debugger is slow so Daggerfall will run horribly slow but it will get there.

Erik.

quakis, can I make blind shot? Do you use latest (i.e. 1.07.213) patch? 😀
