Ok, let me just start by saying that I've spent about 2 hours searching my ass off for solutions, including this forum, but obviously haven't found any.
I am running Windows XP Pro x64 SP2 (let's just assume I am running 32bit before we start blaming it on the lesser known 64bit version of the OS) with the latest directx 9.0c (september 2007). I have a dual core amd processor and a geforce8800gts.
Things I have done:
-Installed via setup.exe in win98 compatibility mode
-Copied over all contents of data folders from each cd (noting to rewrite the 123.brn with the one from the second cd as people report that the one on the first cd is often corrupt)
-Copied over the gk3.exe from the program folder of cd1 (to remedy the invalid win32 error)
-Looked for mpeg2dmx.ax file to rename before starting the game but the file doesn't exist anywhere. I have mpeg2data.ax, but it is automagically regenerated no matter how I try to alter its existence.
Finally, and thanks to anyone who bothered reading this, the following is what I am dealing with now.
Running the game without compatibility mode on:
Screen switches to a blank/black screen and I can hear the opening sierra movie but not see it. It doesn't seem as if my keyboard/mouse have any impact on anything during or after this either (i.e. clicking around in the dark to try and start a new game).
Running the game with win98 compatibility on:
Immediately get the following "Resource Manager Error" pop-up - "The following resource paths are invalid: ." That trailing period is actually after a carriage return and all you can select is "OK". Afterward, the game seems to try and start, but it simply asks me to insert Disc 1 which is already inserted. And I tried all manner of getting it to recognize the disc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
