I've installed DOSBox on my Intel Mac Mini, I've created folders and mounted them, and successfully ran a DOS game. But I'd like to automate the MOUNT commands by inserting them into the dosbox.conf file.

In the Quick Start section of the Basic Setup instruction page, it tells me: "You can save yourself some time by having the program automatically mount and set the drive. Do this by going to your DOSBox folder, and opening the dosbox.conf file." Okay, so I should be able to do it.

The installation folder has a file called "DOSBox Preferences" which has an AUTOEXEC section near the bottom, so I put my MOUNT commands in there, but this file is apparently completely ignored by the program. I guess that's not the place to add autoexec commands. So, where is the dosbox.conf file hidden?

I tried to see if I could replace the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the z drive with another one with the same commands plus with MOUNT commands added, but the COPY command fails. The z drive is apparently set to read only. So that doesn't help either. Can the z drive be made writeable so I can modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file? Will that change be permanent, so the next time I launch DOSBox, my changes will still be there?

Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff

See the Mac OSX section of my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox.

You might also want to take a look at this page and how DOSBox locates your preferences file:

Here I described how to include the Terminal into the DOSBox session to have a -console option:

Loading Config file

This way you can make sure to run DOSBox with your particular config file.
