Maybe this isn't particularly a DOSBox question, but anyway:

So DOSBox supports emulating a modem or null-modem cable, and the README says that one side of a two player game needs to specify the IP address to connect to. I don't have a static IP address, so how does this work? I also have a domain name but my computer isn't the server, so running DOSBox off of my web hosting doesn't seem like it would work that well either.

I suppose I'll also have to get my firewall to allow a remote computer to connect to DOSBox, and convince my router to forward some traffic to my computer. I'm willing to put in the time necessary to figure all this out, but where do I start?

By the way, this is all to get Wacky Wheels working, which supports modem and null-modem connections, and I'm using Linux.

Hopefully you will have a semi-static address that is valid for the time you will be playing the game. Go to

https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=23

and it will show you which address you currently presents to the outside world:

The GRC server is attempting to establish a TCP
connection to Port 23 of your computer located
at Internet at IP address aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd:

That is correct. The GRC port-probe will also show you if you have set up the forwarding correctly. Just choose the port that you and your opponent has chosen for DOSBox.
