Hi all, after scavenging this forum for some time now, I think I have a new issue (though I hope not).

I've been able to get nearly every game to work properly, thanks to research, Technical education/experience and (of course) this forum. You've all been extremely helpful and have given me plenty of insight as to how the emulator works and what tweak need to be done and for what purpose. 😁

I do, however, still have one issue remaining for all of my flight sims. I am able to get DOSBox to recognize that I have a Saitek X45 joystick, however there's about a 5 second delay from the time I move the joystick or push a button, to the time the game reacts, rendering the joystick virtually unusable.

Any help would be appreciated as I have been scavenging for info on this for about 8 hours now and feel like beating my head against my keyboard... which I'm sure many of you are familiar with. 🤣

I have the following specs:
Gateway 685 laptop, Intel Core 2 processor 2.16 GHz, 2GB Ram, Saitek X45 Joystick with Throttle system (Predecessor to the X52 FCS system), and Windows XP SP2.

dosbox version?
Are other games playable with the joystick? Maybe try some joytest prog.

Sorry, should've mentioned this in the first post, but thank you for responding so quickly. However now I feel like a Dumbs**t (sometime people just need someone to give'em a little nudge). I had tried both 0.65 and 0.72 versions, but I hadn't tried other controllers. My Xterminator Gamepad is working correctly and it appears that the X45 joystick was having some issues even in windows's control panel.

I have gotten the X45 controller to react properly after re-seating some connections however the controls are now spasmatic. The ship continuously fires but if I mess with the buttons for a while the firing stops and the thrusters kick in, and the ship periodically rolls on it's own non-stop until I move the controller.

Not sure what the issue is there, For the X45, should I be using FCS for the joystick setting, it's currently set to 4 axis?

The important thing is if you choose fcs or ch in dosbox.conf you also need to set those in the game setup. if you want to use 4 axis don't use fcs since that allows only 3 axis (hat takes up one). ch allows 4 axis + hat.

Try setting "timed=false" in the conf file under joystick, I believe. This fixed all my joystick problems. I use a Flightstick Pro. One person who I was chatting with once said that "joysticktype=" may need to be changed too, but I didn't need to touch that.

Thanks, I'll give these a try. I haven't had much time to continue troubleshooting since I figured out that my Saitek wasn't working properly even in windows.

Hopefully this will fix it... I'm excited about being able to play the WC series again... haven't played that since I was about 14. 😀 Thanks again for all your advise.

All, Thank you for your help. I edited my profiles in D-Fend and set it to use CH for the controller and added Timed=False. I've been playing WC 1 and it's working perfectly! 😀

Thanks again!
