Hey all...I've searched everywhere and tried everything. I've searched the forum, but I'm not even sure what to search for, and have had no luck...
I've had this problem with both Dosbox .70 and .72...
My sound plays fine for a few seconds, then randomly will suddenly go chipmunk high and stutter like crazy the chipmunk pitch keeps shifting up and down, sometimes even going below the speed the sound is supposed to play at. After a random amount of time doing this, it returns to normal, then after a few seconds it begins again.
Needless to say, this makes playing games UGLY. I THINK, but I'm not sure, that this only happens in protected mode games? I've had it in "Blood," "Albion," "Stonekeep," and Ultima 8.
Weirdly, it did not do it in "Crusader: No Remorse..." and less weirdly, not in "Discworld."
I've messed with soundcard settings, both in DosBox and in the games themselves. I've tried SB16, SBPro, vanilla SB, and Gravis Ultrasound, and they all do it. I've messed with blocksize and prebuffer, making them larger, but it still does it. (Haven't tried smaller) I've slowed the emulation down from max all the way to 10% speed and it still does it. At this point I'm pulling what little hair I have left out in frustration. Is this a documented bug, or is it something with my system?
I'm running Windows XP, Xfi soundcard, Core 2 Duo, 3 gigs of RAM.
I'm dual boot ready with Vista...I guess I'll go try that right now...but I can't see why that would make a difference...Any help would be greatly, GREATLY appreciated...
Ben

OK, just booted into Vista and it works fine off the exact same files. ARRRRGH! What the hay is wrong with XP then? Time to patch all my drivers...has anybody else run into this and have a suggestion?
