I bought the Game Pack on ebay, box and everything, but when I put the cd in my drive (In DOSBox .72), ran the installer, it comes up with a message saying "The DOS utlities append.exe, subst.exe, and join.exe, could not be found. To correct this, you must go get your DOS disks". After this, the installer would exit. Unfortunately, the installer has to run as the exe's of the games are nowhere to be found. Running it from Windows XP did not work either, as it comes up with a message saying it was denied permission to create its directories. Any ideas?

Maybe copy those executables from freedos into the directory that you
mount as your c-drive in dosbox.

The APPEND, SUBST and JOIN stuff was used in DOS to make "fake" drive-letters out of existing drives and directories/folders. Seems the installer relies on them to do its copying and stuff.

You could try installing a real DOS in VirtualPC, or another emulator, and afterwards copy the result into a folder that DOSBox can access.

Do you have any recommendations for a emulator that would work? I would prefer to not have to install a new OS.

No, but VirtualPC, or Bochs, QEMU, Virtual Box, are all free, and you can load FreeDOS in them. Or you can boot FreeDOS inside DOSBox.

I got around this by installing MS-DOS 6.22.

Not really a solution. I have the CD Challenge Pack and it also does this.
There's also more problems with its launcher in dosbox as well, so supplying a few dos com's won't totally solve it all

Downloaded FreeDOS. I did not even have to install it; I just copied the needed .exe's from its folders and put them in my DOSBox c drive and the installer ran perfectly--Problem solved. Thanks to all involved!
