I recently downloaded Callahan's Crosstime Saloon and it runs well in DosBox 0.72 with the sound turned off, but when use try to set the sound up using the SETSOUND file, and then try to run the game in DosBox, it says "ERROR: Unable to allocate memory for the sound/voice directory cache."

I've tryed selecting different sound drivers in the SETSOUND utility but I always get that same error message unless I turn off all sounds.

Any ideas on how to get the sound/music to work?

Ask where you've downloaded the game. You won't get support for pirated games or "Abandonware" on VOGONS. According to the DOSBox website, the game should work.

Oh, sorry about that, I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from Home of the Underdogs or a similar site, and I guess that would qualify as abandonware.

I've seen other topics similar to this one on these forums mentionioning something called VDMsound, what is that? Could it help me out?

This may be the topic I'm thinking of:

Mouse in top half of screen only in game

VDMsound can be an alternative to DOSBox, but then you are not running the game *in* DOSBox but directly in Windows.

You could have a rip without music/speech/whatever. That's the reason why we're reluctant to support "Abandonware": you never know if the game is complete, or something's missing. As i wrote, ask where you've downloaded the game.
