Hi all,
Regular visitor, first time poster.
I thought this would help some of you with speed issues in some Windows-based games. I have a Core 2 Quad CPU and occasionally find some older games impossibly fast - a case in point is Zork Nemesis, where a key puzzle involving a rope and a window scrolls so fast it is totally impossible.
Mo'slo is great for DOS games, but the Windows version is not free. CPUKiller is also not free.
Anyhow, an application called OCCT Perestroika solved my issue and is freeware. The application is designed to stress test CPUs to 100% (for overclocking stability testing), but a handy side-effect is a dramatic slow-down in other executing threads - perfect for when you need to slow down a game.
Since this utility keeps the CPU at 100%, it can very quickly generate a lot of heat so I suggest saving before the critical sequence, running OCCT, completing the critical sequence, and then turning off OCCT.
Worked for me.
