Nicht, Been there, done that. I have surfed several forums, including the links that you posted. i found several sites (forums) that mention the fact that many of the CDRW Drives are 'rebadged' ASUS and/or LITEON drives.

Further exploration has indicated this fact to be true. This is not neccesarily a problem, EXCEPT...if, and when, the user has to update the drivers and/or firmware.

It appears that this particular VERBATIM CDRW Drive is old stock that they( ASUS, LITEON, VERBATIM) are trying to unload because of it's obsolesence. this could be the reason why BESTBUY stores in my area are selling them for $15.00 USD after rebates.

I was tempted to make the purchase, (GEE, a CDRW for $15!!!, can't beat it!!!) until I did some research. My reason for posting my inquiry is to see if any members have had similar difficulties updating drivers/firmware for their systems.

P.S. NOTE: specs indicate the Drive is for use with NT based Operating Systems. Go figure.

I passed on the purchase, Ive got enough problems over here already. (see other posts, uh, .....)

Thanks for your input Nicht, now back to figuring out the PM stuff.

Colin, sorry I spaced, this should probably be posted under PC, instead of Milliways.

System Requirements:
PC with Intel® Pentium® III processor 400MHz or faster with MMX® technology; Windows NT 4.0, 2000, ME or XP; EIDE port; 64MB RAM (128MB recommended); 75MB hard drive space (plus 700MB for recording)
Windows NT 4.0,2000, ME, or XP

Actually, OfficeMax had a 48x model that was free after rebates. Think they're all gone now.

Well be more specific next time. As far as I could tell, you were just looking for general info. Firmware updates and driver incompatibility issues are another thing.
