It has come to my attention that old vertical space shooter called Overkill was recently released as freeware. So here is the link for all who want to play this underrated classic:

The game has very nice EGA graphics and works nicely in DOSBox. 😀

I have such fond memories of playing this game on an MT-32 capable system. How I would love for somebody to record the music from it...

Nifty! I remember that game; I bought a copy of the shareware version on two 5.25" disks from the local drastically overpriced computer store. It was indeed nasty hard, which of course prevented one from reaching some of the niftier powerup levels. I don't think I ever made it past that bit early on in the second level where you're constantly being bombarded by cannons that you can't actually shoot at.

I remember the "boss mode" was kind of cool - instead of dumping you into a DOS shell like some games, the screen displayed a perfectly generic-looking screen of text, as if to simulate a spreadsheet of some sort.
