Going to replace the 8800GT in my system right now. Was looking at my purchase history for video cards and noticed that I seem to be buying new video cards roughly every 6+ months. The 4870 is ALOT faster than my 8800GT and it's very cheap as well at $270.00.

I guess it's a good think that GTX 280 I bought a couple of weeks ago was bad. I got kind of power hungry after coming back from that deployment and felt like I really needed an upgrade for my computer. Well now I can upgrade my computer and save some money! It's too bad I have to buy an ATI card though. 🙁 Sorry NVIDIA better luck next time! (6 months from now....)

Hmm, mabye in 6 months with whatever new NIVIDA card is out I can still use my 8800GT just for PhysX?

You're probably better off with the ATI anyway. NVIDIA's QA and R&D seems to have gone downhill lately. Plus, you're keeping AMD afloat, which is good (remember what happened the last time Intel was the only game in town...)

Yes, it’s my fault.

I paid quite a bit for a 8800GT about 6 months ago, believing that it was a very good card to buy. Is the new ATI card really much better? I had little idea how fast this (graphics card) industry changes!

When (or if) you change your card to the ATI one, can you post back with some impressions of the speed differences please?

And that advice from F2bnp about SLI'ing them sounds like a plausible approach - if you have the room in your case that is...

Nah, I didn't want two 8800GT's in my system, I wanted a better minimum framerate and I didn't want to have to bother with if a game works with SLI or not.

I already put the card in but all of the high-end games I would play with the card I've already played!

1 4870 is significantly faster than 1 8800GT is you game at 1920X1200

I may play GOW since I never finished playing that (got bored with it).

If you want me to run some game benchmarks I can.
