Hi

I am using a Intel core 2 duo cpu
T7700 @ 2,40 GHZ 1,98 GB of RAM
Do not know video and sound board name

Windows XP

game: AITD1 cd version
emulator: DOSBOX 0.72

I am trying to install the game. This is what I do:
Z:\>MOUNT D D:\OLDGAMES (D is my hard drive)
Z:\>MOUNT E E:\ -t cdrom (E is my hard drive)
E:
install.exe

to see the first screen (language selection) I need to click more than once the "enter" button
Whatever language I select (let's say english), to get the second screen ("installation of Alone in the dark and jack") I need to click on "enter" more than once.
After this the installation get stuck: I see a screen with buttons, but with nothig written and nothing is clickable

Has this happened to anybody?
Who can help me?

thank you very much

Davide

the first two screens (language selection and option selection) open. I choose install

Almost correct, but some games REALLY, REALLY like to see only C and D. So try this:

Z:\>MOUNT C D:\OLDGAMES
Z:\>MOUNT D E:\ -t cdrom
D:
install.exe

Edit: Seems other people has also reported problems with freezing:

Thank you very much,
the situation definetly improves: I can access the menus.

Unfortunately this time I do not get the correct menu: I can "update Alone in the dark" but not "install Alone in the dark".

Is it possible that the software "thinks" to have already installed it since I tried so many times (and something left in the computer memory, even if the folder oldgames is empty?)

Any suggestion?

thank you again

Davide

if the dosgames directory is empty then the game shouldn't be able to detect old instalations. (as dosbox is a virtual environment)
Might be a nice game to debug. you could try http://cvscompile.aep-emu.de/dosbox.htm and see if the installer works then.

Just making sure: You have a space between the -t and cdrom ?

So what exactly was the problem, what did you change?

There were two problems:
1) at first it was not possible to run the installation procedure (the screen appeared with the colors but nothing was written and nothing clickable)
2) after solving this problem instead of having the "installation" menu, there was the "update AITD" menu

Here the solutions:
1) problem one was solved calling "C" and "D" the virtual drivers created with the "mount" command (instead of "D" and "E")
2) problem two was solved by using the 02.09.2008 release of dosbox instead of the 0.72 version

Thanks again everybody

Ok, I have now the same problem than you, but I cannot solve it. I'm trying to run my version of AITD 1 by the original CD I have (you can see it in this video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=783aVKuSFWs).

I tried again changing some values like "output=overlay" and "core=dynamic" and "cycles=max"; but I still have the same problem.

My computer system is a Vista 64 bit and I've seen this in DOSBox Wiki, I'll copy here:

"Does it work ?

Yes, DOSBox works in both Vista 32 bit and Vista 64 bit. DOSBox also works on a Windows 7 environment 32bit and 64bit.

CD-ROM support

This is currently still in development. 95% of the functions work in 0.73
(I have the 0.74), but if it doesn't work then the best thing you can do is to make an image of your CD-ROM and IMGMOUNT that."

So, I did an ISO of my CD and I runned it. Now, the menu goes perfectly; the problem comes in when it ask for my CD to install it. How I can solve this problem?
I mount my image like it sayed here: http://www.dosbox.com/wiki/IMGMOUNT

Z:>mount c "c:\images"
Z:>imgmount d "C:\MyISO.iso" -t iso
Z:>d:
D:>

you still NEED a c drive. You ahev to understand the logic, the way you are doing it, you only have a CD-Rom drive in your DOS computer (Dosbox), no c:\ drive, so the installer can't install anything. So don'T skip the "mount c C:\images" (and make sure C:\images does exist on your real computer or this is all for nothing).
