I am trying to use the serial joystick whose picture is attached. I have no idea about the model name, since I bought it for 1 EUR on the streets. I think the retro gaming enthusiast here must know this device.

Under Mandriva 2008.1 (and previous versions) I am able to calibrate it in KDE using a serial to usb adapter. If I connect it to the soundcard game port, it simply does not work.

I cannot however, use it right under Tie Fighter (TF). If I use the adapter, the joystick gets always decalibrated, it goes to the upper left corner, again and again, and I cannot keep it steady. I read the README and tried several joystick options, auto, fcs, ch, but finally settled it to none, so I am playing TF with the mouse.

Has anybody has sucess using this or similar serial devices on linux+dosbox? can anyone tell me how to go through configuring it, modprobing etc...?

Play around with the "timed" parameter in dosbox.conf. But it's also possible that the stick is simply broken - these old analogue sticks (it looks like one from the picture) often went into a state where it wasn't possible to properly calibrate them at all, as the stick wouldn't center itself correctly anymore. I don't even want to think about how many joysticks i went through during the DOS days because of that effect.
