Hi DosBox-community,
yesterday I have tested DosBox 0.72 with my alltime favourite sim Tornado from DI. I missed this simulation so much, so I was giving a try.

My big problem is: DosBox wants to start the simulation correct but gives the message "the computer configuration changed. If you want to start Tornado you must reinstall it from the original disks".

I have done my Tornado-installation from the orignal disks because I own the complete orignal package. Also I didnt start Tornado before I was giving a try with DosBox, so Tornado can not have written an another config-setup.

So any help is welcome, please. I dont know what version of Tornado is the HOTU-version. I think they are identical, aren`t they ?

By the way: If have Tornado installed by many ways, always with the original installer. One time direct in Win98, one time only in pure DOS.

And it´s the same message I get when I use DosBox 0.63.

Thanks in advance !
André

Check this thread. I think the first part applies to your situation.

Ok, so I understand that Tornado MUST BE installed via DosBox and the first drive I have to mount is c:, right. Then I mount the floppy because it´s the floppy-version I own.

Until here its clear. But when it is installed and I want to start Tornado next time from HDD what drive I have to mount then ? Only c: ( HDD ) , right ?

Has DosBox saved the configuration of Tornado then? Because I think the problem of the error-message starts again... ?

No, DOSBox doesn't save any configurations automatically.
You should write your mounts and the game call after the mount commands in the config file's [AUTOEXEC] part and start DOSBox with that config file.

If if the game needs other mounts in addition to the C: part mount, is game dependent.
Needs the game the floppy in drive, needs it the CD-ROM in drive?

No, the disk-version is launched and played from HDD. The disks are only there for installation. For this I asked my question before.

Because if Tornado is already installed on my HDD it does NOT NEED any of his disks.

But why DosBox is giving a message that the PC-configuration has changed ??? Also if I reinstall Tornado via DosBox and I want to play the sim I believe that there is the same failure message in future. Otherwise how should DosBox know that the configuration has NOT changed if there is no information-source from or for DosBox as you said ???

Date of the Config-File of Tornado or DosBox ?

Sometimes I believe the combatibility of Tornado was tested only with the version of HOTU...

tornado.
And yes it is possible that only the hotu version was tested.

I am a simple guy, so I prefer to test things in the most simple way.

1) Create an empty folder.
2) Start DOSBox.
3) Install the game from scratch into the empty folder.
4) See if it will run.
5) Exit DOSBox.
6) Delete the folder.

Repeat 1-6 until you are 100% sure that it works, and you know how to do it.

7) Create an empty folder.
8) Start DOSBox.
9) Install the game from scratch into the empty folder.
10) See if it will run.
11) Exit DOSBox.

12) Start DOSBox.
13) Mount the same drives as you did in 7-11.
14) See if it will run.
15) Exit DOSBox.

Repeat 12-15 until you are 100% sure that it works, and you know how to do it.

16) Start DOSBox.
17) Mount only the folder that acts as the C-drive.
18) See if it will run.
19) Exit DOSBox.

Thats cool, I'm also a simple one so before I would post here my problem I HAVE tested ALL SIMPLE ways already before... !!!

So the problem is still that DB wants the original disks but they ARE in the floppy at this moment and the floppy self is mounted already. And if I mount direct to the Tornado-directory DB says the same message of something has changed in System configuration...

By the way the date of the config-file from Tornado was actual...

This is the same message for Bruce Lee.
It's probably the same cause, too - not a problem in DOSBox, but a bad crack.

I don't really care unless you tried the steps I outlined, and then you tell us

* Where it failed
* What the error message(s) was
* What your mount commands where

OK, here we go: In the past I´ve tried 2-3 several ways.

My system is a AMD Athlon 800 MHz, 320 MB Ram, 40 Gb HDD operated with Win98SE and DosBox 0.72.

1.) I´ve installed Tornado before and via original Dosbox of Win98 and the original installer of the floppy-disk, it installed correct on c:\ in a folder called TORNADO. Thats the normal way.

Then I started DosBox and mount drive c. ( mount c c:\tornado )
It was given me a message that it was mounted correct.

Second I changed to mounted drive c ( c: ).

Third I wanted to start Tornado as described with the letters TORNADO
( since Tornado has a Tornado.bat in his folder ).

DosBox was giving following message:

"Start Tornado
Could not start Tornado. Your System Configuration has changed.
If you want to run Tornado you must reinstall it from the orignal disks."

Ok, so I deinstalled Tornado ( wich is only one folder to delet ) what me forced to the second way.

2.) I´ve started DosBox, Tornado-Disk 1 of 3 is already in the floppy-drive (a: ). This way I´ve tested with and without to create an folder "TORNADO" at drive c before, the result is the same... Normaly the installer of this software creates this folder "Tornado" alone.

So first I mount my "c". ( mount c c:\)
DosBox gives me a message that c: is successfully mounted.

Then I mount floppy-drive "a" as a floppy ( mount a a:\ -t floppy )
DosBox gives me a message of successfully mounting the a.

Then I switch to "a" ( a: )
Next I want to start the original installer of the disk in my floppy.
( INSTALL )

The installer of Tornado starts normal and shows me the installer-screen. There I choose "Install Tornado" , path to install is as given from the installer = c:\Tornado ).

Next thing I see ( and wich I dont understand yet ) is the message of the Tornado-installer:

"Could not install Tornado. Please install it from the original disks."

Then I have the only option to cancel the installation. If I confirm this I come back to DosBox automaticly.

Thats the 2 ( or 3 ways ) what I have done. It seems that I dont have other options.

Hmm... That should not happend 🙁 Could be some kind of copy protection that does not work well with the way DOSBox handles diskettes.

So you might have to go back to installing it from Windows 98:

DON'T! Do this:

Z:\> mount C "C:"
Z:\> C:
C:\> cd Tornado
C:\> Tornado
