If the Windows Creative Diagnostic utility is reporting no sound card found it isn't VDMSound. I don't think the old DOS Creative utility would find VDMSound anyway, but just in case, what files do you have with the string "Ke386" in them?

Yes, it’s my fault.

It doesn't. Confirmed that on mine. I think Creative's tool is doing something nasty at a low-level.

With my previous computer, diagnose work perfectly (and dos game DUNE2, EOB, DUNGEON MASTER also).

With current harware/software configuration, is now not possible for emulation to work...

Was your previous system using Windows 95/98/98SE/ME? If so, that's not relevant. XP has no DOS whereas Windows 95/98/98SE/ME did.

My not being able to run DIAGNOSE in XP is irrelevant, as it serves no purpose in XP. I still run DOS programs with VDMSound just fine on a daily basis.

What we need to find out is why your audio isn't working.

Like Snover has suggested, I suspect that something accessing your hardware directly, a no-no for XP.

Suggest that you try this:

Download Ms. Pac-Em from this thread:
showthr...p?threadid=1542

Use either installer and run MSPACEM.EXE with and without VDMSound. Without should give you poor audio and (probably) no music when starting the game. With VDMSound, should give you good quality sound effects and music.

Does it work properly?

My previous harware using Windows XP-SP1 may be with first edition of directX 9...

showthread.php?threadid=1542

I try to ms pac man, but black screen only after logo... only when using emulation mode.

This situation does not exist with my previous harware configuration.

For the peace of my mind, i retry the test in my work computer, a XP PRO FR SP1 and old dfi AK74-SU with amd 900...
The only thing have changed has upgrade to directX9.0b... i have a sound with dune2, but there are delayed for digitalized sound, and dune finish to crash after more sound are not played...

may be this problem does dot occurs if using directX 8.1, but it is necessary to reinstall windows XP on another disk or partition pour check if the case occur by any new microsofs fixes or directX 9, specially in version 9.0b after microsoft fixe this version for security reason....

Could you please find someone that can speak English better to write your posts for you? I cannot understand a word of what you're saying.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Then you have problems well beyond running VDMSound. Even if the game could not use VDMSound's audio emulation or XP's built-in audio emulation, the game should still run with PC-speaker audio.

Since it did not, that tells me you have other problems. Open a command prompt and type EDIT. If it doesn't start in full-screen mode, press ALT+ENTER to make it full-screen mode.

Tyr using your mouse with it to open a TXT file. Does it work?

You might try contacting Zorbid or one of the other board members that can speak French.

Hold on. How can that be it? About the only way I can see it interfering is if "Auto-Protection" was left on during the install of VDMSound.

Even then, why would he still not have MIDI emulation if McAfee was the culprit? Besides, I've run VDMSound on a machine with McAfee AntiVirus Pro 7 and VDMSound seemed fine.

I suspect that this is yet another case of "mystery program that allows direct hardware access".

alphacentauris, do you have a "motherboard monitor" program or some similar program on your PC?

No, because i have no monitors programs for my gygabyte...

In this computer, i have only for system :
- OS Windows XP SP1 + all fixes (patches) from microsoft
- Audigy 1 laster driver (2003)
- laster via4in1 (47)
- detonator 45.23 driver for my geforce4200
- divx 5.03
- mp3 cyberlink power pack XP
- sygate personal firewall 5.1
- mcafee viruscan home edition 7.02

When mcafee exist on system, i have not only emulation problems but vdmsound crashed when i have more 2 files exported, by example the log+export sb wave+adlib wav...

An exception occured in thread 0 ((null))
Erreur 0xc0000005 - l'instruction ß "0x
fault location :0x21503ff
parameter:0x0000000000 0x21503ff

When if have captured only the Sb wav, the content of data for this file is 0 (header are good).

And after removing (NOT only disactivated), i have not crash, i have the sound, and captured data containt valid sound...

I don't know why this problems occurs with viruscan (i have very surprised) but i have investigating...

I have contacted vlad for this problem (in french).

I have download the source for studies this problem too, but my visual c++ does not recognise properly the projet / workspace files...

If you have any ideas...

Thank

There is always the possibility that you have a program allowing direct hardware access an you may not know it (this has happened to several other people).

Check your system to make sure it's clear of GIVEIO.SYS files and files that contain the word "Ke386". If you use Window's "search" tool, you need to make sure that it searches for hidden and system files and directories.

When mcafee exist on system, i have not only emulation problems but vdmsound crashed when i have more 2 files exported, by example the log+export sb wave+adlib wav...

alphacentauris, when you are walking on eggs...don't hop.

In other words, when you are try to get basic sound working in your games don't be turning on the tools to dump WAV samples for soundblaster and adlib. Only turn on those on when you actually need them, and even then, I would not turn on more than one at a time.

I don't know why this problems occurs with viruscan (i have very surprised) but i have investigating...

Quite possibly, McAfee was try to scan the sound files that VDMSound created as they were being created. I can see that causing a crash.

I have contacted vlad for this problem (in french).

He's gone for a while. It may be some time before he sees the email...

Yeah, but why does it only show up under certain circumstances? Remember my comment about XP-Pro vs XP-Home?

Hello,

After many test, i have discoved that when before using wdmsound, if i open the control panel->multimedia options (sound card), after, vdmsound work !

With this clue, i have beginning to suspect device selection into vdm lauchpad.

When starting a session, if i am leaving all devices, that may be work.

If i am selected explicit device, ie audigy wave port, the crash occurs. I have reproduce this case in another computer without viruscan (with trend client).

If i am selected direct sound devise, i have not crashed vdmsound.

now, if am retry with selecting my device "audigy wave port" in sb parameters, i crash. OK.

Now, if i have loaded before my control panel, the crash does not occur after, when i attempt to restart dune2.

it's not curious ?

I am not found the file giveio.sys in my system.

I am not found "ke386" string in all of my files.

Thank
