Hi there!

I am having problems configuring my sound card using the config program "setsound" which comes in the game directory of discworld.

When I right-click, and run with VDM sound it detects a midi card as

"Generic Yamaha OPL3-Based FM music synthesizer"

But none of the auto-detects on the listed soundcards (such as "Creative Labs Soundblaster or 100% Compatible) will work. When I try select one it says

"Digital Sound Hardware Not Found".

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Chris 😀

(also; how on earth does that roland emulator work!! If I could make it work i'm sure it would make games like day of the tentacle, monkey island & discworlds' music sound better 😀)

I think the problem runs deeper than this one game.

Just so you know, VDMSound doesn't emulate the OPL3. Attempting to use it will cause unpleasant things to happen to the music.

I'm suspecting that emulation may not be working. Download Ms. Pac-Em from this thread:
showthr...p?threadid=1542

Use either installer and run MSPACEM.EXE with and without VDMSound. Without should give you poor audio and (probably) no music when starting the game. With VDMSound, should give you good quality sound effects and music.

If you don't get this, then I'm suspecting that you have a program accessing hardware directly ("hitting the hardware") which will break VDMSound.

It's not a separate emulator right now. Canadacow has been implementing the code into his own custom version of DosBox for the present time...

VDMSound does not emulate, it just remaps the channels to GM.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Hrmm. I thought he was referring to posts by canadacow, but I guess that your right in thinking he's referring to the VDMSound MIDI emulation.
